True Story of "12 Years a Slave" Too Much for some....

So this film based on the True Story of Solomon Northrup, a free slave and directed by Steve McQueen, is seemingly POWERFUL. We're hearing some  moviegoers who have attended a pre-screening of the film could not bare to finish watching and exited, promising maybe later in the future they could finish it..WOW! From what we're also learning there was a movie directed by famed photographer Gordon Parks back in the day as well, I've never heard of it. I remember seeing the movie "Beloved"  which starred Oprah for the first time and it was gruesome in some parts as well, which was fine with me. We need a narrative of slavery that is authentic! It is in theatres today!

Brief Synopsis:
"12 Years a Slave" is based on an incredible true story of one man's fight for survival and freedom. In the pre-Civil War United States, Solomon Northup (Chiwetel Ejiofor), a free black man from upstate New York, is abducted and sold into slavery. Facing cruelty (personified by a malevolent slave owner, portrayed by Michael Fassbender), as well as unexpected kindnesses, Solomon struggles not only to stay alive, but to retain his dignity. In the twelfth year of his unforgettable odyssey, Solomon's chance meeting with a Canadian abolitionist (Brad Pitt) will forever alter his life.
